Privacy Policy

Ertu Reader provides a focused reading and A4/PDF printing view for web articles selected by the user. Article processing takes place locally in the browser. Ertu Reader does not operate a developer server, include analytics, or sell user data.

Data handled by the extension

To provide its user-facing reading and printing features, Ertu Reader handles the following information on the user’s device:

  • The URL and domain of the active web page.
  • Website content selected for Reader Mode, including article text, headings, links, images, captions, and basic document metadata.
  • Reading and print preferences, such as theme, font, text width, image layout, and header or footer settings.
  • Website origins explicitly selected by the user for optional automatic Reader Mode.

Ertu Reader does not request names, email addresses, account credentials, payment information, health information, or precise location data.

How the data is used

Page content is used only to extract and display the selected article, provide text-to-speech through browser or operating-system capabilities, and prepare the user’s A4/PDF print preview. URLs and selected website origins are used only for source attribution, print settings, and user-enabled automatic opening.

The extension does not use website content or browsing activity for advertising, profiling, analytics, credit decisions, or purposes unrelated to its reading and printing features.

Storage and retention

Reading, print, and automatic-opening preferences are stored locally through Chrome extension storage until the user changes them or removes the extension. Article content passed to the print preview is stored temporarily in Chrome session storage and removed after the print page loads.

No copy of article content or browsing activity is stored on a server operated by the developer.

Sharing and transfers

Ertu Reader does not sell, rent, disclose, or transfer user data to the developer, advertising networks, data brokers, or other third parties.

Images retained in Reader Mode may continue to load from the original website or its content-delivery provider, just as they do on the source page. Text-to-speech uses voices made available by the user’s browser or operating system. These functions are not developer-operated data collection services.

Chrome permissions

activeTab

Provides temporary access to the current tab after the user selects the Ertu Reader toolbar icon or keyboard shortcut.

scripting

Injects the locally packaged Reader Mode scripts and styles into the active tab following an explicit user action.

storage

Saves local preferences and temporarily transfers the selected article to the extension’s print-preview page.

Optional website access

Optional access to HTTP and HTTPS sites is requested only when the user enables automatic Reader Mode for a selected website. Normal toolbar and keyboard-shortcut use does not require this optional access.

Your choices and controls

  • Reader Mode normally runs only after a toolbar or keyboard action.
  • Automatic opening is optional and controlled per website by the user.
  • Optional website permissions can be reviewed or removed through Chrome’s extension settings.
  • Stored extension data can be removed by uninstalling Ertu Reader.

Children’s privacy

Ertu Reader is a general-purpose reading utility and is not directed to children. The extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if Ertu Reader’s functionality or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when an update is published.

Limited use commitment: Ertu Reader’s use of information obtained through Chrome permissions is limited to providing and improving its disclosed reading and printing functionality. The extension does not transfer this information for advertising or other unrelated purposes.
